On September 17th, 1989, a small group of nineteen Christians, including six children from the South Venice Christian Church met in the home of Emily Scheffler in Englewood, Florida. They organized a new church for the community of Englewood East. The name "Church of Christ, Englewood East" was selected for the new church. Plans were made for further meetings and a search began for a place to meet.
November 12, 1989, forty-one members signed a charter and formed the nucleus of the church. The Englewood East Church of Christ building was dedicated on January 14th, 1996 with 126 people in attendance.
Jim Ratcliff, a native of Pike County, Kentucky, served the congregation of the Englewood East Church of Christ since it was first established in 1989. He went to be with the Lord on February 20th, 2016. Jim Chandler accepted the call as Senior Pastor in June of 2016.
Jim and the Elder leadership of the church have met the challenge of transition and change with humility, faith and love and are championing the mission of the church for the local community.
In 2020, the church decided on a new name to truly represent the congregation and the mission. The name "Englewood Christian Church" was chosen.
We are a growing church that will continue with the hope that every person within our influence will come to know the grace and hope that comes only through Jesus Christ our Lord. Only God knows what the future holds for Englewood Christian Church but we are excited to go on the journey! We look forward to welcoming you to our family of believers.
